jamuna countrywide news: Raudha Atif, a young model known as ‘girl with aqua blue eyes’ from the Maldives who was featured in the Vogue magazine cover committed suicide Wednesday in Rajshahi city.
Police found the body of Raudha Athif, 20, in the second-floor of a girl-student hostel of the Islami Bank Medical College in the city, where she was a second-year student, said police superintendent Zillur Rahman.
‘She was living alone in a single room. Primarily we suspect that she has hanged herself by a scarf with the ceiling fan,’ he said.
Zillur could not give details but said Athif was the daughter of Mohamed Athif and Aminath Muharrimath. Her passport number is E-0514658, he added.
‘She came to study at our college in January 2016. We heard that she was a fashion model,’ said the school’s academic officer Kamruzzaman Masud, adding that the college also has five other Maldivian students.
Fellow students knew that Athif was a fashion model on her Facebook page showing some of her recent fashion images.
Last October Athif created a buzz in the tiny Indian ocean-atoll nation by being featured on the cover of the reputed fashion magazine Vogue’s India edition.
According to Vogue, two years ago while experimenting with her pictures on social media, she became a sensation in the Muslim country as the ‘Maldivian Girl With Aqua Blue Eyes’.
A picture of her coming out of the turquoise sea went viral with former Maldives president congratulating her through social media Twitter.
