Jamunanews: Dhaka Apparel Summit-2017 is going to take place on February 25 focusing on the next course of action plan on achieving US$ 50 billion export goal by 2021.
As a sequel to the success of first Dhaka Apparel Summit(DAS) taken place in 2014, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) is organizing the second edition of DAS with the theme "Together for a better tomorrow".
"The DAS has aimed to create a platform where the stakeholders would share their opinion and fix priority areas for ensuring sustainable growth in country's apparel sector," said BGMEA President Siddiqur Rahman while announcing the DAS at a press conference at BGMEA office this noon.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the day-long largest expo on the US$ 28 billion apparel industry at Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargoan in the capital.
The summit will also showcase the progress of initiatives taken to improve the safety standard and condition of the workers in the RMG sector following the factory disaster in 2013.
The event will be attended by representatives from buyers, brands, university scholars and workers' representatives who would also find out the priority areas to the achievement of $50 billion export target.
The day-long summit would have nine interactive sessions where over 85 speakers from home and abroad would participate. In addition, top representatives of over 25 brands and over 15 globally renowned academics would also attend in the DAS.
There would be three main sessions in the summit. The first session titled "Business Policy and Environment: Towards a Better Bangladesh" while the second session titled "Collaborative and Responsible Souring for Sustainable Growth" and third session is concentrated on "Bangladesh Apparel Industry: Transformation and the road Ahead".
So far 3,245 people have been registered themselves to participate in the DAS.
Speaking on the occasion, United Commercial Bank (UCB) Chairman M A Sabur, which is the title sponsor of the event, said the government should provide some policy support to apparel sector to attain the $ 50 billion export goal by 2021.
Replying to a query regarding foreign media reports, the BGMEA President said the foreign media which published pessimistic report those are not present here. "I request them (foreign media) to visit our factories and witness the actual scenarios before publishing any report."
BGMEA First Vice President Moinuddin Ahmed, Senior Vice President Faruque Hassan, Vice President S M Mannan (Kochi), Vice President Mohammed Nasir, Vice President Mahmud Hasan Khan (Babu), Vice President Ferdous Perves Bivon and Vice President M Ferdous, among others, were present.
